A Puyallup resident working as a recruiting office supervisor for the Washington Air National Guard won the John H. Anderson Military Citizen of the Year Award on Thursday for her work in the community.

Master Sgt. Tabatha A. Bennett volunteers at schools and charities across Pierce County.

She volunteers as an assistant coach on the Rogers High School junior-varsity soccer team. She also provides classroom support at Rogers and administrative support at Kalles Junior High School.

A mother of two, Bennett is also involved with the Washington National Guard’s Youth Program and serves as a cooking and service specialist at the Tacoma Rescue Mission.

She owns a computer graphics, design and Web site business and donates its services to nonprofits that can’t afford design fees.
