The Fort Lewis public affairs office has alerted the media that an exercise beginning today that involves special operators could get loud. And it’s not just limited to Lewis or the Yakima Training Center.

The exercise will involve troops from 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment; the 160th Special Operators Aviation Regiment and the Air Force Special Operations Command. They’ll be working in Fort Lewis, the Yakima Training Center, the Snoqualmie National Forest and “surrounding communities.”

The training isn’t open to the media – hey, the Rangers are pretty typically mediaphobic – but Fort Lewis assures us it’s gonna be high-intensity.

“Soldiers will use training ammunition and other training devices to make the military exercise as realistic as possible,” the release says. “To conduct this military exercise, a number of different rotary wing and fixed wing aircraft are used.

“There will be periods of increased air traffic to include low-flying aircraft, both helicopters and airplanes, during hours of darkness. Increased air traffic and noise may be associated with a large airborne operation involving the Rangers.”

soggy and wet makes for interesting training

  2. A little noise in return for all they do — sounds like a good trade off to me. Stay safe.

  3. Bring it on! I love the sound of freedom. Thank you to our greatest and bravest citizens.

  4. No. Rangers aren’t mediaphobic. They’re media smart.

The media would eagerly divulge Ranger tactics, techniques and procedures, thereby threatening their operations and their lives.

There’s no fear of th media involved, but merely awareness of the enemy (intentional or not) from within.

Don’t take the statement so seriously Armand–it’s typical tongue-in-cheek humor involving the Rangers..

Well I didn’t hear squat last night—and I live on post! lol….I sure slept soundly though—kept thinking I heard pouring rain any time I did wake up. lol…

I sleep really well with the sound of choppers and aircraft going overhead. :)
