The Senate on Friday confirmed Army Maj. Gen. Charles Jacoby, Jr., for promotion to lieutenant general and assignment as commanding general at I Corps and Fort Lewis.
No word yet as to when he’ll arrive from his current job – commander, U.S. Army Alaska – to set up shop at Fort Lewis.
Meantime two other new Fort Lewis leaders will arrive later in the summer. Col. Michael Okita, a former commander of the 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, will come from Iraq to be the next I Corps chief of staff. He is currently chief of staff at the 82nd Airborne Division. Okita was the Ranger boss at Lewis in 1998-2000 and commanded the battalion’s A Company.
And Col. Mark Ritter will be the I Corps G3 – the operations and plans officer. He currently holds the same job with the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Ky. Before that he commanded the 11th Infantry Regiment at the U.S. Army Infantry School at Fort Benning.
