Fort Lewis has more than just two of its Stryker brigades deployed to Iraq. Here’s a rundown of all the post’s units in Iraq — about 9,400 soldiers in all — and in Afghanistan — a little more than 600. That makes a total of about 10,000 Fort Lewis troops in harm’s way at this moment.
In Iraq: The two Strykers –- the 3rd and 4th brigades, 2nd Infantry Division — along with the 593rd Corps Support Group headquarters, the 513th Transportation Company, the 497th Transportation Company, the 520th Medical Company, the 502nd Military Intelligence Battalion, Detachment A of the 9th Finance Battalion, the 22nd Adjutant General headquarters and Detachment B, the 250th Forward Surgical Team, the 175th Adjutant General headquarters Platoons 1 & 2, the 5th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment, the 24th Quartermaster Company, the 63rd Ordnance Company, the 22nd Military Police (CID) detachment, the 53rd Medical Team, the 571st Military Police Company, the 585th Engineer Company, the 28th Public Affairs Detachment, the 51st Military Police team, 707th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Company, the 9th Ground Liaison Office, 5th Battalion, 5th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, and the 40th Transportation Company.
In Afghanistan: the 23rd Chemical Battalion, the 864th Engineer Battalion, and the 66th Military Police Company.
On deck: The 54th Military Police Company, the 4/6 Aviation Squadron, the 170th Military Police Company and the 80th Ordnance Disposal Battalion are scheduled to deploy sometime in the next few months.
