Honoring Joe Jackson

joe jackson photo.jpgMcChord Air Force Base already has a street named after him. Now they’re naming one of their big C-17 cargo jets for him as well.

But there are few who deserve such honors more than retired Col. Joe Jackson. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for landing his C-123 under heavy fire at Kham Duc, Vietnam, in May 1968 to rescue a three-man team of combat controllers.

Jackson, who lives in Kent, will be on hand Thursday when the Air Force unveils “The Spirit of Col. Joe M. Jackson.”
