Raul Ibanez named as Mariners’ nominee for Roberto Clemente award

Not a big surprise here that Raul Ibanez was named as the Mariners’nominee for baseball’s Roberto Clemente Award. The honor is given to a player that best represents Clemente’s value of helping others. Each of the 30 teams has a nominee for the award. Ibanez was also the Seattle’s nominee for the Branch Rickey Award. Ibanez’s extensive work with a series of charities made him the Mariners’ nomination.

Jesus Montero’s suspension an opportunity to move on

The Seattle Mariners aren’t caught up in the same wreckage as the New York Yankees, but the announcement from the office of Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig of a 50-game suspension for Jesus Montero and 11 other players – as well as Alex Rodriguez’ suspension through the 2014 season – for violations of the league’s Joint Drug and Prevention Program sent a ripple that was felt throughout the league.

Raul Ibanez disgusted with MLB drug usage

Raul Ibanez has played in the Majors for a long time. Eighteen years to be exact and with four different teams.

His capacity to understand how a mass drug suspension, such as what was administered from MLB commissioner Bud Selig’s office today of 13 players, including Jesus Montero of the Mariners, will affect the integrity, perception and outlook of the game.

Ibanez didn’t hold back when expressing his contempt for the actions of the suspended players when talking with area reporters in the clubhouse before the Seattle Mariners game Monday against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Eric Wedge out for third consecutive game

 

Eric Wedge won’t be with the Seattle Mariners for a third consecutive game as he continues to recover from a dizzy spell that caught almost everyone by surprise when the incident occurred two days ago.

Even more shocking is how long it has kept him away. Bench coach Robby Thompson took over managing duties after Wedge left before Monday’s opener of the three-game series against the visiting Cleveland Indians and he said the team expects to have more information this afternoon.
