Ackley: ‘I don’t feel like I’m an out anymore’

After Franklin Gutierrez’s outfield workout didn’t go well Tuesday afternoon, the Mariners were forced into another move.

Summoned from Triple A to replace Gutierrez, Dustin Ackley packed his stuff, bolted Cheney Stadium and began the uphill battle that is I-5 North traffic after 4 p.m.

He may have been Tuesday’s happiest commuter. After being sent down to the minors May 26 with a .205 average in tow, Ackley was coming back to the clubhouse most figured he would never leave after initial arrival.

Dustin Ackley will start playing some outfield in Tacoma

Some interesting news came out of Las Vegas today when Rainiers radio  Mike Curto sent a tweet out that Dustin Ackley was penciled into the starting line-up in … left field.

Obviously, that’s a surprise considering that the Mariners drafted Ackley as an outfielder out of the University of North Carolina and then spent the better part of two years converting him to a second baseman. To his credit, Ackley became a better than average second baseman – even earning a gold glove nomination last season.
