Morse homers in first Rainiers rehab assignment

Michael Morse wasn’t sure how his quad would hold up in an all-out sprint around the bases.

So his first at-bat, his first game since saddled to the disabled list a month ago, Morse sent a line-drive two-run home run toward over the right field wall toward Foss High School.

“You don’t have to sprint or nothing,” Morse deadpanned. “Just a nice jog around the bases. I’m hoping to do that more.”

Morse batting third, DH at Cheney Stadium

 

The last time Mike Morse wore a Tacoma Rainiers jersey, it was back in 2009 when he was still trying to break into the major leagues.

He’s wearing one tonight for entirely different reasons. Morse is making his first minor-league rehab appearance since heading to the disabled list with a strained right quadriceps on June 22, though he first injured it against the San Diego Padres on May 28.

He’ll bat third as the designated hitter at Cheney Stadium tonight against the Tuscon Padres.
