Thursday’s line-ups, official game notes, updated stats and stuff on Michael Saunders vs. the Detroit Tigers

Michael Saunders has moved up in the order and is batting second. In the last two games, he’s had three doubles and a triple. He and manager Eric Wedge said it that the success could be a product of a minor swing adjustment he made in St. Louis.

“I made a minor adjustment with my hands,” Saunders said. “I kind have them further back and further up. I keep my same trigger, but it minimizes movement. It helps me basically be ready earlier. I felt like I was getting myself in a position to get a ball I wanted

Wednesday’s line-ups, official game notes and updated stats vs. the Oakland A’s

As expected, Nick Franklin is out of the line-up after needing five stitches in his knee last night.

Acting manager Robby Thompson said he hopes that Franklin will be back for Friday or Saturday’s games Seattle. The issue isn’t the stitches. Mariners trainers assured him that Franklin would be able to play with them. They could protect the stitches with padding.

“Obviously, it’s going to have to be protected pretty well,” Thompson said.

Saturday’s line-ups, official game notes, updated stats and Wedge comments vs. Indians

It’s a much needed off day for Michael Saunders, who has started every single game – 15 straight – since he came off disabled list. The last few games he’s struggled a little at the plate – going 2 for 19, including 0-for-10 in the last two games. While Saunders wants to play every day, getting a break is a good thing.

Mariners 16, Reds 0 — a different kind of hit fiesta

The facts

Brandon Maurer made another strong case for the starting rotation, pitching five shutout innings, giving up six hits and striking out seven batters, while walking one. For the spring, Maurer has allowed just two runs in 20 innings pitched. He also got plenty of run support with 16 runs on 16 hits, including two more home runs to push their major league leading total to 52 this spring. The 52 homers is a franchise record, snapping the previous record of 51 set in 1999.

Mariners line-up vs. the Angels

Here’s the line-up for today’s game against the Angels. It will be a big day for Jeremy Bonderman as he is scheduled to pitch four innings. People have mentioned on Twitter about Franklin Gutierrez’s absence in the lineup the past few days. He last played on March 9. We talked to Gutierrez, who said he has some stiffness in his legs. The Mariners decided to give him a break from games, but he’s still been at the complex every day taking BP and doing his normal work.

More audio at MyNorthwest.com

** here’s my appearance on the Cactus League Report from last night’s Cactus League Report.

Michael Saunders left the Mariners as a player just happy to represent his home country in the World Baseball Classic. He returned to the Peoria complex on Tuesday as a Canadian hero.

Team Canada failed to advance out of the Pool D qualifying, going 1-2 in three games and losing to the U.S. in the deciding game on Sunday. But Saunders
