Mariners minor league report, May 3, 2013: Rainiers win in new manager John Stearns debut

New manager, same result.  The Tacoma Rainiers keep on rolling no matter who is leading them. Carlos Triunfel hit a three run homer (above)  and Eric Thames also homered in manager John Stearns’ debut - an 8-0 win..

Mariners minor league report, April 30, 2013: veteran outfielder Corey Patterson signed to a minor league contract

The Mariners have signed veteran outfielder Corey Patterson to a minor league contract. He will report to extended spring training. This is a move for outfield depth at the Triple A level. He spent last season with Triple A Nashville. 

The Tacoma Rainiers picked up a 4-1 win as Mike Zunino’s triple got the offense rolling. Alex Liddi also homered in the win. Eric Thames and Nick Franklin both extended their hitting streaks. Zunino is mentioned in Jeff Passan’s prospect column

Position preview: So many outfielders, so many questions

A year ago, it didn’t seem as though Michael Saunders was going to make the Seattle Mariners roster coming out of spring training. This season, Saunders might be the only outfielder that reports to spring training with a guaranteed spot in the lineup.

Yes, the Mariners have nine outfielders coming to major league spring training. And there’s a decent idea as to which four or five they may keep. But how it will all play out is far from certain.
