Wednesday’s line-ups, official game notes and updated stats vs. the Oakland A’s

As expected, Nick Franklin is out of the line-up after needing five stitches in his knee last night.

Acting manager Robby Thompson said he hopes that Franklin will be back for Friday or Saturday’s games Seattle. The issue isn’t the stitches. Mariners trainers assured him that Franklin would be able to play with them. They could protect the stitches with padding.

“Obviously, it’s going to have to be protected pretty well,” Thompson said.

However, the pain in Franklin’s knee is more of the issue.

“It’s pretty sore,” Franklin said.

Mariners 2, Brewers 0 — Felix Hernandez puts a stop to the losing

Felix Hernandez wasn’t going to let it continue. The Mariners’ losing, the Brewers’ hitting and his personal run of winless starts were going to come to an end, and they were going to end on Sunday.

They scratched him from his outing. He had magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) on the arm on Saturday and Mariners team doctor Edward Khalfayan and the training staff reviewed the results.

So this Brad Miller kid, he’s kind of good.

The Mariners rookie shortstop, who has looked like a rookie only in his baby-faced appearance, came out of the all-star break much like he went into it – playing like he belongs at the big league level.

Miller blasted the first two home runs of his career, driving in five runs and collecting another hit to help the Mariners outlast the Houston Astros, 10-7, on Friday at MinuteMaidPark.

Since he was called up on June 28, the bright lights of the big league have never seemed too

After Franklin Gutierrez’s outfield workout didn’t go well Tuesday afternoon, the Mariners were forced into another move.

Summoned from Triple A to replace Gutierrez, Dustin Ackley packed his stuff, bolted Cheney Stadium and began the uphill battle that is I-5 North traffic after 4 p.m.

He may have been Tuesday’s happiest commuter. After being sent down to the minors May 26 with a .205 average in tow, Ackley was coming back to the clubhouse most figured he would never leave after initial arrival.
