Pregame: Line-ups, official game notes, updated stats vs. the Los Angeles Angels

After his pseudo day off, Kyle Seager is back in the line-up.He will bat third. Nick Franklin gets another start as Brad Miller finishes up his recovery from a  strained hamstring. No Josh Hamilton for the Angels.

Mariners manager Eric Wedge said Earsmo Ramirez feels better today. He said Ramirez was just battling groin tightness and could and should be good to start next week.

Brad Miller is participating in a full pregame workout, including running the bases. He should be available as a sub tonight.

Wedge doesn’t have any set limitations for Felix Hernandez tomorrow in his

Thursday’s line-ups, official game notes, updated stats and stuff on Michael Saunders vs. the Detroit Tigers

Michael Saunders has moved up in the order and is batting second. In the last two games, he’s had three doubles and a triple. He and manager Eric Wedge said it that the success could be a product of a minor swing adjustment he made in St. Louis.

“I made a minor adjustment with my hands,” Saunders said. “I kind have them further back and further up. I keep my same trigger, but it minimizes movement. It helps me basically be ready earlier. I felt like I was getting myself in a position to get a ball I wanted

Wednesday’s line-ups, official game notes, updated stats vs. the Detroit Tigers

This will be the 135th different line-up for Eric Wedge this season. Does that mean anything really other than they used a lot of line-ups? Well, It means they’ve had some injuries, used some platoons and a lot of roster turnover. Also when you aren’t very good, you have lots of line-ups. You tend to experiment and try different combinations. And the Mariners aren’t very good. Is having the same line-up most days a good thing? Yes, when you have good, consistent players. It’s easy for Jim Leyland to write out the top five guys in his

Monday’s line-ups, official game notes, updated statistics vs.the Detroit Tigers

Nick Franklin is back in the starting lineup after a two-game hiatus. The line-up is about as expected. At this point, I don’t have any indignation about Michael Saunders not playing. The Tigers have loaded the lineup with right-handers to face Joe Saunders tonight, including former Mariner Matt Tuiasosopo, who is making his first start since Sept. 3.

Felix Hernandez threw a lengthy bullpen session. But he will NOT start Wednesday. Hisashi Iwakuma will start on Wednesday vs. Justin Verlander, while James Paxton will start on Thursday vs. Doug Fister. Pitching coach Carl Willis and  manager Eric Wedge have

Sunday’s line-ups, official game notes, updated stats vs. the St. Louis Cardinals

Brad Miller is out for at least a few days with a strained hamstring.

“He’s not going to do anything today,” manager Eric Wedge said. “He’s sore and tight. We’ll just take it day to day. But it’s going to be at least a couple of days.”

Miller suffered the strain running to first on a sacrifice bunt in last night’s win.

“He runs hard and plays hard,” Wedge said. “I think it’s good we got him out of there when we did, so it doesn’t go to the next level.”

Carlos Triunfel will get the starts at shortstop

Friday’s line-ups, official game notes and updated stats vs. the St. Louis Cardinals

The Mariners open a 10-game, 10-day road trip tonight starting with a three-game series against the Cardinals. And if that isn’t tough enough, they face the Tigers for four games. Both teams are vying for their division titles. So these games won’t be easy for the Mariners, who just got swept at home by the Astros.

“You are playing two of the best teams, if not the two best teams, in all of baseball in their backyards in the middle of September,” Mariners manager Eric Wedge said. “It’s going to be a great atmosphere, a great challenge for our

Satuday’s line-ups, pregame notes, official game notes, updated stats vs. the Texas Rangers

Nick Franklin is out of the line-up today. He’s been struggling mightily at the plate and in the field. Since July 9, there are his numbers …

To quote former Mariners beat writer Larry LaRue: Yikes!

“Nick has a day off today,” acting manager Robby Thompson said pregame. “We’ll give Nick a little rest and a little work day. He’s been struggling lately, but he’s struggling even more so from the right side.”

So Franklin gets a work day today, which isn’t a bad thing. He put in quite a bit of fielding work

Friday’s line-ups, pregame notes, official game notes, updated stats vs. the Texas Rangers

Big thanks to Don Ruiz for covering the Tampa series. I watched the games on my laptop and can’t say I was disappointed in not having to cover them.

Brad Miller and Nick Franklin are at the top of the line-up per usual. Yes, they both had their moments in the field in Tampa. It’s been a rough month for the two rookies in that regard. But really, it was expected. It’s something that was written about often before they were ever called up. They are rookies and had fielding issues in the minor leagues. Those aren’t
