Mariners take LHP Tyler Pike with third-round compensatory pick

Here’s a link to the above video

The Mariners had an extra pick in the compensatory portion of the third round since slugging catcher Kevin Cron didn’t sign  with the team last year.

With that pick – #126 overall – the drafted left-handed pitcher Tyler Pike out of Winter Haven, Fla.

Mariners select high school shortstop Joe DeCarlo with second round pick (updated with more video)

Day 2 of the MLB amateur draft begins today. And the Seattle Mariners had the fourth pick of the second round (64th overall) and took Joe DeCarlo, a high school shortstop out of Garney Valley High School in Glens Mills,  Pennsylvania.

DeCarlo is 6-1 and 205 pounds and was recruited as a third baseman to the University of Georgia, where he was signed to go.

He was rated by Baseball America as the 57th best high school prospect in the country.
