Wedge says Smoak will get ‘bulk’ of time at first, Morales at DH

Mariners manager Eric Wedge said today the plan is for Justin Smoak to get the bulk of time at first base and Kendrys Morales to get the same at DH this season. Wedge said how spring training goes is a factor in determining how their time will be split/spent, but that it would take something “drastic” in order for that approach to the change.

Video: Felix Hernandez talks after his first workout

Felix  Hernandez spoke to the media following his first workout. It was a pretty light day for him. The Mariners are easing him into it today. He was excused from conditioning, but participated in the rest of the workout. He played catch with long toss, took some pitcher’s fielding practice and went over situational work and then was done.

Congrats to former Mariner R.A. Dickey on the N.L. Cy Young Award, Felix finishes fourth in A.L.

Congratulations to R.A. Dickey on winning the National League Cy Young Award yesterday. While we aren’t supposed to be fans in our jobs, you couldn’t help but root for Dickey. He was one of the single best people I’ve ever covered in journalism. He is honest, thoughtful, intelligent, compassionate, competitive and filled with a desire to continue to learn. The award and the success couldn’t have happened to a better man.
