Starting Thursday, all of our sports blogs will have a new look.

The blogs are being moved into the main site from our blog platform. We are aiming to go live with the new site around 11:30 a.m.

To readers, the postings and stories will look largely the same and look better on mobile.

The main difference is in how you comment. You will need a Facebook account through which to sign in so you can comment on the blog. Otherwise, the content you’ve come to expect will be the same.

We hope you like the new look as we continue to provide unique insight into the Mariners and Major League Baseball.

Facebook, huh? Facebook creeps me out. Everything about it. Even the guy who started it.

Still going to read the blog though.

  2. Can’t comment without a Facebook account?

So you’ve just excluded me and I suspect a great many others from commenting.

If I can’t participate, there’s no point reading.

I cancelled my News Tribune subscription back when they moved the main site to Facebook. Even though I was still able to comment on the blog, I largely stopped doing so at about that same time – so in practice this doesn’t affect me all that much.

At the time it was a wrenching decision though. I grew up with the TNT (I remember how much I looked forward to reading Denny MacGougan’s column way back in the day). Newspapers have served an important role in our country’s history.

But when a newspaper starts depending on one of the most egregious privacy violators on the planet for part of its basic business function, I figure the role of that newspaper to keep its local citizenry dispassionatelly informed has taken a fatal blow.

Interestingly, just yesterday I received a letter in the mail inviting me to re-subscribe to the TNT at a reduced price. Good timing with this announcement guys! You just reminded me of why I left.
