Day 2: Mariners draft picks, rounds 3-10

Here is a rundown of each player the Mariners selected during the second day of the first-year player draft. Rounds 3-10 will be held today. We will update as the Mariners’ picks come in.

ROUND 3 (Pick 80): Austin Cousino, University of Kentucky, CF, L/L, 5-10, 185, DOB: 4/17/93

Former SEC Freshman of the Year. Mariners took two power bats on Thursday, but Cousino is known more for his glove than his muscle. Did lead the U.S. college national team with a .351 batting average during summer of 2012, per

Here’s his college bio. Cousino batted .308 as a junior in 2014 with four home runs, 15 doubles and 38 RBI.

ROUND 4 (Pick 111): Ryan Yarbrough, Old Dominion, LHP, R/L, 6-5, 205, DOB: 12/31/91

ROUND 5 (Pick 141): Dan Altavilla, Mercyhurst College, RHP, R/R, 5-11, 200, DOB: 9/8/92

Starter in college, but projects him as a likely reliever in the pros. Here is his college bio. He’s the highest MLB draft pick in Mercyhurst history.

ROUND 6 (Pick 171): Lane Ratliff, Jones County Junior College (Ellisville, Mississippi), LHP, L/L, 6-3, 185, DOB: 3/22/95

Started 13 games as a freshman at Jones County JC in 2014, posting an 8-3 record with a 3.08 ERA, 89 strikeouts and 35 walks in 64 1/3 innings.

ROUND 7 (Pick 201): Taylor Byrd, Nicholls State, LHP, L/L, 6-2, 195, DOB: 8/15/92

ROUND 8 (Pick 231): Kody Kerski, Sacred Heart, RHP, R/R, 5-10, 185, DOB: 4/18/92

After drafting outfielders with their first three picks, the Mariners have now selected five consecutive pitchers. Here is Kerski’s bio from Sacred Heart.

ROUND 9 (Pick 261): Peter Miller, Florida State, RHP, R/R, 6-1, 193, 4/27/92

ROUND 10 (Pick 291): Adam Martin, Western Carolina, C, R/R, 6-2,230, DOB: 12/7/91

Hit .307 with career-best 14 homers and 65 RBI in 54 games this season. Here’s his college bio with the rest of his stats.
