Get ready for added security this season at Safeco Field.

The Mariners announced Tuesday that all fans passing through the gates will be screened by metal detectors in addition to already existing bag checks.

The new procedure brings the Mariners in line, a year early, with a directive from Major League Baseball that all clubs implement such a screening procedure by the start of the 2015 season.

A club release said fans “will pass through walk-through magnetometers while their tickets are being scanned…Those who do not wish to pass through a metal detector will have the option of being checked with a hand-held device.”

The Mariners also said metal detectors will be operational at the Left Field Gate for this weekend’s FanFest at Safeco.

I wonder how much this will slow down the line to get into the field. Best course of action is to arrive early and be patient. This is mandated by MLB.

So what is not allowed? I always carry a pocket knife, not as a weapon, but as a tool. As a Scouter and a Coastie – Semper Paratus and Be Prepared.

I’m wondering if tiny bbs will still be allowed to wear his tin foil hat?
