  1. Is this link a joke? Both of their numbers are effing terrible.

  2. Quinault says:

Oh look, Carlos Peguero is hitting!

  3. wabubba67 says:

Quinault–I was a hell of a hitter in my back yard while playing Whiffle Ball with my friends. It doesn’t mean that I could hit a real curveball in a meaningful high school game, though.

    Peggy has the same problem.

  4. They don’t just go by strictly numbers. It’s also voted on by potential and I think the workouts. But really, there aren’t that many teams/guys in the league. So filling out two teams might have some guys with less than overwhelming numbers.

  5. Wow, Peguero got 4 singles and a double in 3 winter league games. Whoopdee friggin do. I don’t get why you talk about Peguero but not Montero?

  6. Quinault says:

I am on record as saying that Carlos Peguero will be the DH in 14. Part of my sarcastic remark was to say that Peggy is getting hits in minor / winter league games. (Oh Boy!) The Mariners do not have an outfield set. We made major additions to the infield. And as was pointed out, Montero is not only a man without a position, but is tainted with steroids/performance enhancing drugs. I have not even mentioned pitching.

I see Mike Z as being the everyday catcher, with maybe Sucre being the back up. But things could change as trades happen, people hit their way onto the team, or injuries occur.

I am almost as shocked at Peggy’s walks as much as anything. Maybe he has learned that he does not have to swing at everything.

I based my prediction based on what is in the cupboard, the past financial dealings of the team and the unwillingness to bring in a free agent. Add a new manager and I predict a payroll that is similar to 2013 or less. Some contracts come off the books, but I do not see Choo, Elsbury, or any big ticket bat / arm coming here. Of course I will eat my words if we go shopping successfully in Japan!

  7. Quinault, you said DH, so Montero doesn’t need a position. His awful defense doesn’t come into play there. Hopefully he can get his swing back if he doesn’t have to think much about defense. I’m not saying that Montero will pan out, but I think it’s a lot more likely than Peguero. Montero is much younger and has more talent. He can fill in at 1st and C occasionally. This is assuming that Morales leaves.

Peguero has had a decent enough walk rate the last couple of years in the minors if I recall correctly. His contact rate is the problem.

  8. They certainly have the resources to go after Choo or Ellsbury if they want to. Especially if Morales walks. Doesn’t mean they will want to come here. Maybe Ellsbury being from Oregon helps? I think they need to get a decent vet starter as well. I think you can only count on 2 of the 4 of Walker, Paxton, Ramirez, and Maurer to start.
