9-5 -- lineup

So the Mariners will make an adjustment to their rotation. Felix Hernandez, who was scheduled to start Sunday at Safeco Field, will have his start moved back to Wednesday. This is a precautionary move by Wedge and the Mariners. Hernandez is feeling no pain in his lower back after getting a cramp there. He was tormenting Henry Blanco and running around yesterday.

“He feels good and he wants to start on Sunday, which I understand,” Mariners manager Eric Wedge said. “But we are just going to be cautious. And he understands. It really isn’t going effect how many starts he gets with how we have it played out. We just don’t want to take any chances.”

9-5 -- probables

That means everyone will slide up a day in the rotation. Erasmo Ramirez will pitch on Sunday against the Rays. Taijuan Walker’s home debut will be pushed up to Monday and Joe Saunders will go Tuesday.

Wedge was asked about Michael Saunders diminished playing time.

“It’s just been a function of trying to get everyone in there, I’d like to play him more than I am,” Wedge said. “But when you are a balancing all these outfielders, it’s a tough mix.

Wedge talked about trying to playing the young players as well as still respecting the effort given to the team by Raul Ibanez and Endy Chavez earlier in the season.

“I’m trying to walk those lines and win as many games as possible,” Wedge said.

“With all these guys, the consistency is the key,” Wedge said. “You see them one day, and you are alright ‘that’s what I’m talking about.’ And then the next they are off. That’s okay to an extent, but you have to be more consistent that we’ve seen. It’s a fast good society, everyone wants it yesterday.”

  1. No need to bring back Joe Saunders. You can get this kind of production for cheaper. I think they do need to bring in one vet. starter so that you don’t have to count on the big 4 and Erasmo to take more than 2 spots in the rotation. It would be nice if they could take 3.

What’s that Lassie – Timmy wants to come home?

  3. ????????????????????????

  4. Quinault says:

Q: Are you referencing Tim Lincecum of the SF Giants & UW fame?

    A: Yes I am.

  5. AHHHHHHH. Didn’t catch that. That could be good, depending on the money. He’s not elite anymore.

  6. Quinault says:

I doubt that we would be paying him big bucks. We are where former Mariners and want to be Mariners go to end their careers. For example: Mike Cameron, Carlos Guillen, Jason Bay, Jeremy Bonderman and Ken Griffey Junior.

  7. Lincecum has had back-to-back rough seasons in a league without the DH and a division that has subpar lineups (minus the Dodgers). I would pass.

  8. wabubba67 says:

But Coach, just imagine what batting practice could be like with Lincecum pitching to Peguero.

  9. Keep it classy.

    Oh, tiny bbs. smh
