The damage to Michael Saunders’ finger isn’t as bad as the Mariners initially though.
Saunders was spiked last night when Cubs catcher Welington Castillo threw to third for a pick-off attempt during an intentional walk in the 10th. It was a crafty move by Castillo that almost worked. Mariners manager Eric Wedge said Saunders is day-to-day, but the damage to the middle finger of his right hand will make him only available to pinch-run tonight.
Nick Franklin gets a day off because of a stiff neck. That moves Brad Miller over to second, where he played just three times for Tacoma. Brendan Ryan is back in at short. Franklin is available to pinch-hit.
Dustin Ackley is back in center field for the second consecutive night.
