After crushing Chris Volstad the last time they faced him, the Tacoma Rainiers didn’t have quite as much success in a 4-1 loss.  Erasmo Ramirez pitched last night, going six innings and giving up four runs (three earned) on five hits with five strikeouts and a walk in hitter friendly Colorado Springs.

Dustin Ackley had the night off.

Double A Jackson had the day off. But the Generals got a new shortstop as slick-field Chris Taylor was called up from Class A High Desert. Taylor is considered to be one of the best fielding shortstops in the organization. He had hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games, batting .377 (20×53) with 13runs scored, 1 double, 3 triples, 1 home run, 7 RBI and 5 walk. In 67 games, he had 90 hits for a .335 batting average with 20 stolen bases and a .950 OPS.

Class A Everett suffered it’s first loss of the season, 8-4.  … The Aqua Sox are tinkering with their rotation already this season.  … Aaron Brooks feels right at home with the Aqua Sox, but that’s because he’s from Montlake Terrace.

Also second-round pick Austin Wilson is expected to be at Safeco Field on Friday to take batting practice with the team and meet with the media.

The Mariners also announced the following signings …

Left-Handed Pitcher (6): Ryan Horstman (4th round), Eddie Campbell (15th round), Paul Fry (17th round), Will Mathis (25th round), Tyler Wright (26th round), Michaelangelo Guzman (31st round)
