The Mariners will finally give Kelly Shoppach a day off. After catching all 16 innings Wednesday and every inning since, Shoppach gives way to Brandon Bantz today. Bantz will be making his MLB debut.

Also, the Mariners took Kyle Seager’s little brother, Justin, in the 12th round today as part of day three of the draft. He’s a first baseman out of UNC-Charlotte and is the third Seager to make it to pro ball.

Also, the Mariners have recalled Carlos Truinfel from Tacoma and placed Jesus Sucre on the 15-day disabled list because of left wrist sprain.

As usual, Pettite and friends had a much larger strike zone to work with than M’s pitchers.
