The 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft starts at 4 p.m. with the Houston Astros picking No. 1 for the second straight year. The Seattle Mariners pick at Nos. 12 and 49 today with the rest of the draft taking place tomorrow and Saturday.

Most of the draft pundits have released their final mock drafts. Here’s who some believe the Mariners will take with their first pick.

BASEBALL AMERICA
12. Seattle Mariners: J.P. Crawford, SS, Lakewood HS (Calif.)

– He’s considered the top shortstop prospect in a draft that doesn’t have a lot of up-the-middle prospects.

12. Seattle Mariners: Hunter Renfroe, OF, Mississippi State

– Renfroe is a power bat with an athletic build at 6-foot-1, 216 pounds, but had a tendency to swing and miss as a junior this season (51 strikeouts in 230 at-bats)

USA TODAY
12. Seattle Mariners: D.J. Peterson, 3B, New Mexico

– Peterson is one of the more polished high school bats in the draft, if not the most. He could eventually make the switch to first base. He also has a brother, Dustin, who could go on the first day of the draft as well.

BLEACHER REPORT
12. Seattle Mariners: Ryne Stanek, RHP, Arkansas

– The Mariners selected Stanek in the third round in 2010 but he never signed and instead played the past couple seasons for the Razor Backs. They could look to take him a few rounds earlier this time.

If it isn’t evident already, this draft isn’t going to be quite as hyped for the Mariners as past seasons. But they also aren’t picking in the top 3 for the first time in a while. Mariners scouting director Tom McNamara has said repeatedly that he plans to take the “best player available” and if an athletic high school outfielder such as Clint Frazier or Austin Meadows falls in his lap, he would likely pull the trigger on one of them.
