The tough season for Jesus Montero continues. On Saturday, the Mariners announced that Montero had suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee.

Montero was examined yesterday by Dr. Edward Khalfayan, the Mariners medical director and will undergo surgery on a to-be-determined date next week and is expected to miss approximately four to six weeks. There is no word when Montero suffered the tear.

With Montero out for a while and a 40-man roster move needed, the Mariners could recall Montero and place him on the 60-day disabled list opening up a roster spot for Jeremy Bonderman.

Montero, 23, was optioned to AAA Tacoma in the Pacific Coast League on May 22. In seven games with the Rainiers he was hitting .250 (7×28) with 3 doubles, 1 triple and 2 RBI. His last game was May 29 at Colorado Springs.

Montero hit .208 (21×101) with 6 runs scored, 1 double, 1 triple, 3 home runs and 9 RBI in 29 games with the Mariners this season. The Mariners were 15-10 in games when Montero started behind the plate.

Montero hit .206 in April (17 games), and was hitting .211 in May (12 games). His 3 home runs all came in Felix Hernandez starts, including a go-ahead solo blast May 8 at Pittsburgh off A.J. Burnett.

Why the funk did that EFFING MORON Wedge not see that Wilhelmsen didn’t have it? He sticks with relief pitchers too long half the time and won’t let them go an extra batter or 2 when they’re dominating the other half. Time to effing clean house. I was reserving judgement going into the year, but they ALL need to go now. I know Dumb and Dumber will be here forever, but I’m now done with Z and Wedge even though they aren’t the biggest problem with the organization. Maybe we can convince all 4 to go camping in Oklahoma?

So with Montero going down, I’m wondering what move would be made in Tacoma if they want another catcher up. Don’t know if John Hicks is back from injury or if he’d be ready for a move to AAA. Still not time for Zunino to make the move.
