Michael Morse left Tuesday night’s game with a right quad strain. He is day-to-day.
UPDATE: 10:59: Manager Eric Wedge said Morse is unlikely to fly with the team tonight to San Diego. He’ll probably stay in Seattle for some evaluation. Wedge expects Morse to miss a couple days, which will put the Mariners in a tricky spot with Justin Smoak already day-to-day.
Morse’s single to center in the fourth put him on and Michael Saunders’ gap double put him in motion. When Morse rounded third base, he grimaced. He was out by a long margin at home plate. Sliding into the plate — and a collision with catcher Yasmani Grandal — made Morse grimace again.
That ended his night. The Mariners swung Endy Chavez from left field to right and placed Jason Bay in left.
Morse has dealt with other dings so far this season. He fractured his pinkie in early April. A scratched eye caused him to miss a game against Cleveland on May 17.
