Michael Saunders’ evening lasted one batter.

Saunders tracked back and reached up with his left hand before crashing his right side into the wall and catching a drive from Houston lead-off hitter Jose Altuve.

The Mariners announced Saunder has a right shoulder sprain and will miss, “some time.” He will be re-examined by team medical director Dr. Edward Khalfayan.

Saunders went down immediately after hitting the wall and was flat on his back on the warning track for several minutes. Trainer Rick Griffin and manager Eric Wedge went out to look at him.

Eventually, Saunders sat up, then walked off. On his way back to the dugout, he was holding his right arm tight to his body.

Jason Bay took his place in right field and atop the order.
