3-24 -- line-up vs. D'backs

Here’s today’s line-ups. Franklin Gutierrez is back in center field. One thing you have to wonder. If the Mariners feel the need to slow play him this spring to protect him from injuries, how much can they play him during the season? Maybe five days will be too much.

Of note, the Mariners starting pitching seems to be slotting out this way …

  • Monday at Reds — Brandon Maurer
  • Tuesday vs. Royals — Jeremy Bonderman
  • Wednesday vs. Dodgers — Felix Hernandez (Erasmo Ramirez will throw in a minor league game)
  • Thursday at Cubs — Hisashi Iwakuma
  • Friday — off
  • Saturday vs. Rockies in SLC — Brandon Maurer
  • Sunday – Off/Workout in Oakland … Joe Saunders will stay in Arizona and throw in a minor league game.

Does this mean that Maurer won the job in the rotation? Not necessarily. A few years ago, Michael Pineda pitched in the last game of spring and didn’t make the team. But the fact that he’s still pitching in that game means he still has a chance.
