The Mariner made some roster moves postgame, cutting five pitchers from big league camp. Left-hander Danny Hultzen and right-hander Hector Noesi were optioned to Triple A Tacoma. Meanwhile right-handers Taijuan Walker and Jonathan Arias and left-hander James Paxton were optioned to minor league camp.

The reason the last three were optioned to minor league camp is that the Mariners haven’t determined where they will be headed this season. Hultzen and Noesi will be with the Rainiers which probably gives my buddy Mike Curto mixed feelings.

Because of the abundance of starting pitching, Walker and Paxton could start the season with Double A Jackson.

Hultzen looked solid yesterday after returning from a week off with a minor hip flexor strain, while Paxton and Walker both pitched today in the “B” game.

To be fair, all three were longshots to make the rotation. With Jon Garland looking healthy, the Mariners had no need to rush them into the big leagues.
