3-7 -- Royals lineup

Perhaps some of the luster of today’s showdown between the two Cactus League leaders has been lost with the Mariners’ loss to the Brewers yesterday.

But when these two juggernauts hook up something like meaningless like a loss has little value. This will be Cactus League action at its finest.  You should expect nothing less when a 10-2 team (Mariners) travels to face a 11-o-1 team (Royals).

Kidding aside, Felix Hernandez makes his Cactus League debut today. He will likely throw two innings. After that, Hisashi Iwakuma, Tom Wilhelmsen, Lucas Luetge, Carter Capps and Stephen Pryor will all make appearances. Iwakuma will likely go three innings.

3-7 -- A's lineupDown in Phoenix the Mariners will be going with this lineup. In split squad games, teams are required to start at least three “starters” on each team.  Obviously, I will post the A’s lineup when it becomes available. This will be a big outing for Maurer. Also scheduled to pitch are James Paxton, Brian Moran, Logan Bawcom and others.

Who are the 3 “starters” in Phoenix? I see 1.

  2. it’s a very loose definition of what a starter is. I’m guessing its three players on the 40-man roster.

Any Idea of when they are going to start whittling down the roster spots, or is that still a long ways off. The hitting has been so positive it seems there are going to be some very difficult decisions this year and you hate to see anyone get cut that might provide an offensive spark once the season starts.

  4. Wedge said he isn’t any hurry to make cuts. I’m guessing not till the end of next week. There will be some tough calls. but it’s clear the talent throughout the organization is better.
