Danny Hultzen is on his way back to pitching again this spring. The Mariners prized pitching prospect was sidelined by mild strain in his right hip flexor. After a few days of treatment, everything seems to be going well.

“I’m feeling good,” he said before morning workouts.

Hultzen will play catch today, including off the mound. If all goes well, he will throw a bullpen session in the day or two.

“I’m going to test it out and see how it goes,” Hultzen said. “I wasn’t expecting it to be any longer than this. I’m just glad everything has gone smoothly.”

Can Hultzen still make the starting rotation? It’s possible. If I had to handicap the race of the four prospects – Hultzen, Taijuan Walker, Jamex Paxton and Brandon Maurer – I’d say Hultzen has the best shot, followed by Maurer and then Paxton. But really, the Mariners would probably prefer to start all four in the minor leagues at the beginning of the season.
