The Mariners just made it official, Mike Carp to the Red Sox for cash considerations or a player to be named later.

Thursday was the deadline for the Mariners to trade or release Carp after designating him for assignment when they acquired Joe Saunders.

Carp, 26, appeared in 173 games over four seasons with the Mariners (2009-2012). He combined to bat .255 (139×545) with 28 doubles, two triples and 18 home runs. He was acquired by Seattle from New York (NL) in a three-team, 12-player trade on Dec. 10, 2008.

  1. Always liked Carp, but he couldn’t seem to stay healthy and doesn’t have the same upside as a guy like Smoak. I hope that he has a great career. Personally, I was hoping that the Brewers would trade for him.

  2. “Cash considerations”??????…………. Betcha we get him back just like Mike Morse in a few years……….

The Mariners FO are idiots. I could have supported trading Carp for a half decent prospect, but “cash considerations”??!

Wonder if Paul Allen or Chris Hansen would like to buy a baseball team? PLEASE??

Did you miss the, “or a player to be named later,” part? I guess so. Did you think anyone was going to give up anything halfway decent for a player that’s never really proven anything in the majors, especially when they know the M’s had to trade him in 10 days or lose him for nothing? Come on, you know more about baseball than that.

I will agree that it would be awesome for P. Allen or Hansen to buy the M’s. The upper FO seems to have been doing better the last year, but they didn’t have to do much to improve on the circus they had been for years.

  4. Ownership like that would be awesome, I agree. That being said, ownership has very little to do with talent evaluation.

Nate, you took away everything else I was about to type haha
