The Mariners made a move largely for Triple A depth by signing veteran first baseman/designated hitter Mike Jacobs to a minor league contract with an invite to major league spring training.

With Luis Jimenez no longer in the organization, Jacobs figures likely to be a his replacement for the Rainiers. Jacobs, a one-time every day player in the big leagues, has been basically a Triple A player the last few seasons, playing full seasons in Colorado Springs in 2011 and Reno in 2012. In 2011, Jacobs’ season was cut short when he became the first player under MLB’s new drug testing policy to test positive for Human Growth Hormone.

Confusing, as Smoake and Carp are more than likely to be in Tacoma as well.

I don’t know to much about Jacobs, seen him play a couple of times did’nt do anything to grab my attension, does’nt hurt to bring him aboard see what he can do, in this economy im allright with thrift .store shopping i do it myself, but it sure would be nice if the M’s could score on a free agent, competion out there makes things rough it’s even harder to lure some one in when we’ve had a losing tradition here, as you know it’s not just about the money.

Read an article that said the mariners have the second best farm system in baseball, what… how comes are AAA team is all so at the bottom in the league what’s up with that? im sure there’s a resonable explanation right.
