The Mariners made yet another predictable roster move today with the announcement that designated hitter and sometime first baseman Luis Jimenez has been outrighted to Triple A Tacoma, taking him off the 40-man roster.

That leaves Seattle with two open spots on the 40-man.

Because he will be a sixth-year minor league player, Jimenez can accept the outrighted assignment to Tacoma or choose to become a minor league free agent.

Jimenez, 30, made his big league debut appearing in 7 games with the Mariners in 2012, going 1-for-17 (.059) at the plate. He spent a bulk of the season with AAA Tacoma, and was named the Rainiers Offensive Player of the Year hitting .310 (146×471) with 20 home runs and 81 RBI.
