Dave-Felix was over 100 pitches after 6, and sending him out there for the 7th virtually guarantees that he ends up with around 120 pitches. He has been a workhorse, over 200 innings every year (last year it was about 240 I think). Wedge was just being prudent. As nice as it would have been to see Felix out there in the 7th, and yes he is better than Kinney, no doubt, there is really no purpose in accumulating additional strain on your ace and face of the franchise at this point in the season. Felix doesn't need to be babied, per se, but he labored through his 6 innings last night and threw a lot of pitches to get through his 6 innings. The bullpen has been the strength of the team for the majority of the season, so I don't question the move at all.

What is with Mike Blower's obsessing about Felix coming out of the game when he's only got 100 pitches? Does he know something we don't? Is Felix injured? Is he being shut down ala Strassberg? Is this how we build Felix for the future and the potential to pitch in meaningful games in September and October? By taking him out after six innings?
Does Wedge really think Josh Kinney is better against the Angels than Felix Hernandez? I don't know. I think the baseball world is being turned upside down by doctors, by money, sportswriters who have no desire to see good competition, sportscasters obsessed with pitch limits more suitable for injured players, rather then star players. Good luck the rest of the way Seatte. Shut Felix down, better yet, don't let him start until next June, then he won't have 200 innings next year. Who needs to win in April and May anyway? Hell, shorten the season to 100 games, then nobody has to be shutdown. We can start the playoffs on August 1st.
