You could likely make out quite a lineup of solid players with Boston Red Sox hitters not playing the Seattle Mariners today – which should help Jason Vargas and his teammates.

Trades and injuries have greatly changed the Boston roster – Jacoby Ellsbury and Dustin Pedroia are the only well-known names in Bobby Valentine’s lineup today.

The Mariners, of course, aren’t exactly household names outside of the Northwest, and having John Jaso – eight home runs, 43 RBI – batting cleanup isn’t going to intimidate anyone.

Still, this is a three-game series Seattle should take advantage of at Safeco Field, where the Mariners have won nine of their last 11 games. They start today’s game with 65 wins, two fewer than they had all of 2011.

Here’s today’s lineup:

Dustin Ackley  2B
Franklin Gutierrez  CF
Kyle Seager  3B
John Jaso  DH
Justin Smoak  1B
Eric Thames  RF
Miguel Olivo  C
Carlos Peguero  LF
Brendan Ryan  SS
Jason Vargas  LHP
