It’s not the position the Seattle Mariners wanted, but to prevent a sweep by the Los Angeles Angels today, they’ll have to beat 16-game winner Jered Weaver.

They’ve done it before.

On Aug. 12, they beat Weaver in Anaheim, 4-1, behind Jason Vargas. Today, the Mariners will start Hisashi Iwakuma, who is 4-2 with a 2.72 earned run average as a starting pitcher.

More important, perhaps, Seattle will start Jesus Montero, who has only six at-bats against Weaver – but three of those produced home runs. Here’s today’s Mariners lineup:

Dustin Ackley 2B
Franklin Gutierrrez CF
Kyle Seager 3B
John Jaso DH
Jesus Montero C
Justin Smoak 1B
Trayvon Robinson LF
Carlos Peguero RF
Brendan Ryan SS
