It’s a Felix party at Safeco Field tonight

The Seattle Mariners will play the Cleveland Indians tonight, although that’s almost secondary to the celebration of Felix Hernandez at Safeco Field.

There’s the pre-game video tribute to his perfect game, the passing out of yellow King’s Court-style t-shirts to as many as 34,000 fans and the happy chaos almost certain to follow.

And then, Hernandez will actually pitch. Behind him, the usual left-handed hitting assortment of teammates will face Indians rigtht-hander Roberto Hernandez.

It sets up to be Seattle’s seventh consecutive win, but that’s not the way the game works. If Felix isn’t focused, Cleveland is capable of pounding him. There are no gimmes in this league. Not even for a King.

Here’s the Mariners lineup:

Dustin Ackley     2B
Michael Saunders   CF
Kyle Seager         3B
John Jaso            C
Jesus Montero          DH
Eric Thames        RF
Justin Smoak       1B
Trayvon Robinson   LF
Brendan Ryan           SS
Felix Hernandez        RHP

  1. While Felix is justly gathering the headlines, lurking in the background is the odd story of the pitcher formerly known as Fausto Carmona.

After reading this story, I’m thinking of dropping the “timeout” moniker and re-entering myself here as a young fan known as “whuppin’stick”. I’d be on the lookout for trolls.
