Outfielder Carlos Peguero is with the team, and as long as he’s here, Eric Wedge has him in the lineup tonight – and why not? – the Seattle Mariners remain one moving audition in 2012.

Peguero’s over-the-top swing has played well in the Pacific Coast League and he’s been hot. The Mariners don’t have anyone capable of homering five times in a week, so Peguero slides into right field tonight while Ichiro takes a day at designated hitter.

Against left-hander Tommy Milone, here’s the Mariners lineup:

Ichiro      DH
Casper Wells            LF
Michael Saunders    C
Miguel Olivo            C
Kyle Seager         3B
Justin Smoak         1B
Carlos Peguero      RF
Dustin Ackley      2B
Brendan Ryan            SS
Kevin Millwood          RHP

  1. Olivo batting cleanup. That oughta put a good scare into the opposing pitcher.

  2. Nomdeguerre says:

When will the club decide they have seen enough of Smoak and his .205 batting average and .270 OBP, and move Ackley to 1st base, Seager to 2nd base, and bring up Liddi (whose major league average was .231 and whose triple A average is now .299) to play 3rd base. Smoak should some life on the road, but now leads only Figgins, Kawaski and Ryan (another player who’s time should be up) in BA. Time for him to get an “injury” for some time in Tacoma to get his head straight. Is he just trade fodder now?

This a great article at Fangraphs for anybody like gonefishin69690 with their heads buried you know where! It clearly shows that the M’s aren’t “the ONLY team that cannot hit at Safeco”. Not to mention the fact that other teams only play a few times a year here so it doesn’t get into their heads. I agree that the young players for the M’s need to be stronger mentally but, it is CLEARLY not just a mental thing. Some of these players probably should be in AAA and there aren’t really any good vets on this team to take the pressure off.

P.S. The M’s have 51 homers on the road. 4TH IN MLB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, is it just me or is listening to Dave Henderson call a game BRUTAL!!!!!!!

  5. Nomdeguerre, it just dawned on me: when Carp comes off the DL if the team decides to keep him it is very possible Smoak could go to Tacoma & Carp to 1b. Carp is out of options, & it would give him a roster spot & a place to play. And God knows, he couldn’t be any worse then Smoak.

  6. imjtaylor79 says:

Listening to Dave Henderson is horrible, and I don’t get the impression that Rizzs feels differently. I hope they find a few more hats to throw in the ring because Hendu, Fairly, Levine and that other guy are not permanent solutions.

  7. crytalball says:

I feel the M’s need to take another look at how this team is progressing or the lack of, the current direction would suggest that it would take another two, to three years to have a winning ball club i thing that we the fan’s are losing are patience, especialy after the Bavasi debacle, there comes a time when you really need to shake things up a prime example is the Okland A’s and don’t talk to me about money, look at there payroll we need to take a page from them and get this show on the road.
