Fifty-three games into the 2012 season, the Seattle Mariners have posted their first lineup that doesn’t include Ichiro Suzuki, who batted third in the first 52 games.

The right-fielder gets a day off before a scheduled off day, a well-desreved break for the 38-year-old right fielder. In his place? Chone Figgins.

After snapping their five-game losing streak last night against Texas, the Mariners will ask Blake Beavanto give them the chance to win their 23rd game.

It’s the newest new-look lineup:

Ackley 2B
Figgins RF
Seager 3B
Montero DH
Smoak 1B
Liddi LF
Olivo C
Saunders CF
Ryan SS
Beavan P

Can’t wait to see Figgins gunning those Texas baserunners out at home. Maybe Zduriencik’s setting up a Figgins for Moreland deal.

Actually, I’m curious to see how 3-5 will perform in this lineup.

  2. timeout says:

Ahem: so far, this lineup appears to be working.

  3. This line up seems to be clicking, 17-3 in the sixth. Seager 3-5, 3 runs scored, 1 RBI so far in the 3 hole. Maybe Iciro should sit more often, or bat him second.

  4. timeout says:

I had thought, preseason, that it would be a good time to have Ichiro to sit out at least one game a month. As for where he should hit in the lineup, let Wedge figure it out; but I’m comfortable with Seager hitting third against righties until and unless it starts to wear on him. He sure looks solid so far, despite his little glitch a couple of weeks ago.

Roll it out again tomorrow. At worst, we can lose without Ichiro as much as we can we can with him. Hoping the Rangers like what they are seeing with Figgins…please eat some of his contract. Funny how they seemed much more interested in being a team tonight without the almighty Ichiro, huh?
