The Seattle Mariners have invaded what some in sports consider The Evil Empire, and so far all that’s happened is their hitters have taken early batting practice – and the media is piling up to spot Jesus Montero.

Montero, you’ll remember, was a Yankees phenom until he was traded for the ace-in-waiting, Michael Pineda this off-season. Pineda has undergone season-ending surgery, Montero is catching and batting cleanup tonight.

Yes, they’ll talk to another ex-Yankee, Hector Noesi, if they have to, but writers want Montero – as quiet a player as the Mariners have. Should be interesting.

Meanwhile, there are ex-Mariners everywhere – Raul Ibanez, Freddy Garcia, Rafael Soriano and Alex Rodriguez.

Three days, three games in the Bronx, including a matchup against Andy Petitte on Sunday.

Here’s tonight’s lineup vs. New York:

Dustin Ackley 2B
Brendan Ryan SS
Ichiro  RF
Jesus Montero  C
Kyle Seager  3B
John Jaso DH
Justin Smoak 1B
Mike Carp LF
Michael Saunders CF

It will be interesting to see how Montero and Felix synch up tonight, against the Yankee’s tough lineup, after all the problems Millwood had.
