And now, Mariners face the dreaded Tigers

A day off and an hour or so of early batting practice may be just what the Seattle Mariners need to shake themselves loose of their offensive doldrums – though it’s hard to imagine playing the Detroit Tigers in Comerica Park will help.

Miguel Olivo is back behind the plate, but Justin Smoak has been replaced for a second game in a row by Alex Liddi at first base, and Muneori Kawasaki is at shortstop, not Brendan Ryan.

Will it make a diference? Jason Vargas hopes so. The lineup:

Chone Figgins   LF
Dustin Ackley           2B
Ichiro Suzuki          RF
Jesus Montero             DH
Kyle Seager (L)            3B
Alex Liddi                    1B
Michael Saunders   CF
Miguel Olivo                 C
Munenori Kawasaki   SS
Jason Vargas           LHP

  1. Is Smoak injured? That would explain his lack of production. Seems odd that 2 teams (us & Texas) were SO WRONG about Smoak’s talent level.

Broken record alert: What the heck is Figgins doing in the lineup hitting .215??! And Olivo…….. If they ain’t gonna listen to me, night they at least listen to McGrath (LOL!)??!

Speaking of which: Is Pegeuro injured? I haven’t seen him in he Tacoma box scores.

  2. Darrin Beene says:

    Hey Moo….

About Peguero, yes, he’s injured. Tore up the meniscus and had surgery, which means 4-6 weeks on the sideline.

  3. Thanks for the info, Darrin!

Re today’s game: Liddi has earned an extended everyday look at 1b (sit Smoak) or DH (sit Olivo). if they feel Montero isn’t ready to catch every day, it would seem to be Smoak who needs to sit. I assume Liddi can’t take Figgin’s place in the outfield, & also Carp should be back soon which I assume & pray means bye bye Figgy. They can’t take Seager’s spot away; he’s totally outplaying Figgins. I guess they could give other teams one last look at Froggy in CF, byt the fact is he’s a horrible defensive liability out there, & that .206 average can’t be helping Jack Z move him either.

This is a rebuilding year with the purpose of checking out the “kids” & the fact is in a very small sample Liddi has the best ba on the team.
