Add another name – Kevin Millwood – to the candidates hoping to fill out the Seattle Mariners rotation. reports Millwood’s sister announced the deal on her Facebook page. later confirmed it, saying Millwood signed a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training.

Millwood, who turned 37 last month, made nine starts with the Colorado Rockies last season, going 4-3 with a 3.98 ERA. He threw 54 1/3 innings in the majors – his lowest total since his rookie year in 1997 – after spending most of the season in the minor leagues.

In his career, Millwood is 163-140 with a 4.10 ERA with six different teams (Atlanta, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Texas and Baltimore).

The Mariners rotation heading into the spring is unsettled behind Felix Hernandez and Jason Vargas. Competing with Millwood for the other three sports are newly signed Hisashi Iwakuma from the Japan League, second-year pitcher Blake Beavan and Charlie Furbush, last year’s No. 2 overall draft pick, Danny Hultzen, and veteran Oliver Perez, who signed a deal similar to Millwood’s last week.

  1. Again…..This is embarrassing, the M’s FO is a joke. How can we convince Paul Allen to buy out these douches so he can bring in a FO that actually knows how to spend money to win. Tack on another lame summer of baseball in WA.

  2. roastbeef253 says:

Millwood and Perez…2 Scott Boras clients. M’s possibly trying to please Boras so we got an edge on Fielder? Sounds a bit suspicious if you ask me.

  3. The Yankees got productive seasons from Colon and Garcia last year. The collection of veteran back-of-the-rotation guys is so that the FO has the option to let the young guys (Hultzen, Paxton) spend the early part of the season in AAA.

  4. I would LOVE to see Paul Allen buy the M’s, health permitting. But than, I also wanted him to trade Portland to Clay Clay for the Sonics & that sure didn’t happen!
