The Seattle Mariners don’t seem to be making headlines this week at the general managers meetings in Milwaukee, but that’s hardly a surprise – GM Jack Zduriencik won’t talk about free agents, trade possibilities or much else beyond the weather.

All front offices have their own styles, and that’s been Jack Z’s since his arrival three years ago. Bounce around the majors, however, and there are always rumors sprouting. Need a quick fix?

The Baltimore Orioles are talking to free agent David Ortiz, and the Mets and Red Sox are talking to former Twins closer Matt Capps. Toronto is looking at another closing candidate, Colorado reliever Huston Street.

The Marlins, who dropped a six-year, $90 million offer on shortstop Jose Reyes have apparently dangled a nine-year contract in front of 31-year-old Albert Pujols. Miami is leading baseball in early headlines, if not results.

The White Sox have all but given up on re-signing LHP Mark Buerhle, but Buerhle may not change addresses – he’s talked several times to the Cubs.

Oakland’s Billy Beane is holding one of the bigger trade chips in LHP Gio Gonzalez – and the Tigers, Cubs, Yankees, Marlins and Diamondbacks have all made inquiries.

Philaelphia is in talks to bring back shortstop Jimmy Rollins, but other teams are entering the fray for the free agent. The Brewers have met with his agent, and the Braves are thought to have weighed in, as well.

Since no team has yet to bid on free agent first baseman Prince Fielder, expect agent Scott Boras to dust off his ‘secret team’ scam soon. That’s the one where he talks about the team that’s made a big bid but won’t name it. Yeah, he keeps getting away with it.

Mariner fan to Jack Z. Don’t play coy “The King” wants Prince on his team–so go get him.
