For those who’ve lost track at home, manager Eric Wedge tonight has come up with the 112th version of the Seattle Mariners lineup – an astonishing feat through 120 games.
This one, against the Toronto Blue Jays and right-hander Henderson Alvarez, continues to ride the hot horses – first baseman Mike Carp and outfielder/designated hitter Casper Wells - while getting at-bats for rookies Trayvon Robinson and Kyle Seager.
Michael Pineda makes his 23rd start of the season looking for his 10th win, and he’s 1-0 in his career against the Blue Jays in two previous starts.
Here’s the lineup:
Ichiro RF
Gutiererz CF
Ackley 2B
Carp 1B
Wells DH
Olivo C
Robinson LF
Seager 3B
Wilson SS
Pineda P
It’s been reported on yahoo that Vargas & Kennedy cleared waivers unclaimed. If true, that would likely explain why we traded Fister rather than Vargas (which I felt was a big mistake). I.e., nobody wanted Vargas.

Moo–this time of year there are many players that clear waivers. Baseball executives used to never claim a player in order to prevent a trade. Times have changed a bit…but not much. If someone had claimed Vargas they would still have to work out a trade with Seattle or else Seattle could pull him back from waivers…or let the other team have him for the remainder of his salary (think the best possible scenerio with Figgins).
