To make room for pitcher Blake Beavan — who’s making his first major league start today (Sunday July 3) — the Mariners have optioned first baseman Mike Carp to Triple-A Tacoma and moved catcher Chris Gimenez to the 60-day disabled list from the 15-day DL, the Mariners announced.

Beavan was not on the 40-man roster prior to being called up from Tacoma and these moves create a spot for him.

Manager Eric Wedge will have his pre-game press conference with the media around 11:30 a.m. and we’ll be back with more information then. I’m helping out today — Ryan Divish is also here and will be your usual, gracious host.

  1. Too bad Carp has never been able to duplicate his aaa success with the M’s.
