Greetings from Cheney Stadium, where I’m covering the Rainiers, so we’ll have an evening edition of the minor league report.
With the call-ups of Josh Bard and Jose Yepez, the Rainiers were without a catcher for today’s game. But they’ve called up a pair of catchers – Ralph Enriquez from Double A Jackson and Trevor Coleman from Class A High Desert.
Mike Curto goes into more depth on this blog post.
Later in the blog, it mentions that Denny Bautista has been released so he can pitch in Korea.
Michael Saunders is still away from the team because of personal reasons.
Double A Jackson dropped a double header, losing the second game when Travis Denker hit a pinch hit grand slam off of Steve Delabr in the seventh inning.
Class A High Desert scored 13 runs in the second inning in a 14-9 win over Lancaster. Shortstop Gabe Noriega hit a grand slam in the big inning.
Dennis Raben went 0-for-3 with two walks and scored two runs in the game. I got to talk with Raben today on the radio as I co-hosted the Ian Furness Show with Jason Puckett.
You can listen to our Raben interview here.
Class A Clinton lost 14-5 to Beloit. In other news with the LumberKings, catcher Steven Baron was moved up to Class A High Desert with promotion of Coleman.
Baron, 20, hit .197 with a team-high 13 doubles, four home runs and 20 RBI in 57 games with the LumberKings this season.
Class A Everett lost 8-3 to Vancouver and fell to 3-10 on the season.
