Obviously, the Rainiers had plenty of movement today, losing both catchers to the Mariners. They have an off day today. But I would expect to see perhaps Brandon Bantz from Double A Jackson called up and maybe a catcher from Class A Everett to come down for Thursday’s game.

The Rainiers were in Las Vegas last night and lost 11-4 as Blake Beavan got roughed up at hitter friendly Cashman Field. Former major league pitcher Adam Loewen, who is now a position player, got some big hits for the 51s. For the Rainiers, third baseman Kyle Seager had three hits, including a single, double and triple.

In other Rainiers news, reliever Josh Lueke was selected to play in the Triple A All-Star game for the Pacific Coast League.

Lueke, 26, has compiled a 1-3 record with a team-high seven saves and a 2.48 ERA over 23 appearances and 32.2 innings pitched with the Rainiers in 2011. He has recorded 17 scoreless outings at Tacoma with 24 strikeouts and 11 walks.

He’s the Rainiers only selection thus far, though that could change if players on the team are called up. Obviously, Dustin Ackley and Mike Carp were candidates but were called up.

Double A Jackson was rained out, and will play a doubleheader today.

Class A High Desert lost 12-7 as starter Mauricio Robles had another awful outing.  Robles is coming back after arm surgery and has struggled.

Class A Clinton got an up and down outing from James Paxton in a 4-3, 12-inning win as Stefen Romero drove in the game-winning run for the LumberKings. Paxton threw six innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits, while striking out seven. He did have three wild pitches.

Class A Everett lost to Vancouver 7-4 as starter Tony Butler gave up four runs in the first inning.

Call up a new batting coach. The current one has used up his time and is completely useless; nobody could have done worse.

  2. SandlotSam says:

I can’t wait to see the “Carolina Connection”, Smoak, Ackley, and Seager in the big leagues busting chops for the Mariners. Nick Franklin is from Florida, but when he comes along and the young guys are hitting their stride the M’s offense is going to be about fear and punishment instead of futility and embarrassment.
