As I was meandering through the Mariners office, for what reason I can no longer remember, I heard a familiar voice and looked up to see a smiling Ken Griffey Jr. standing on the stairs, presumable making his way up to Chuck Armstrong’s office.

Earlier in the spring, the Mariners announced that Griffey was hired to be a special consultant to the organization, so I’m guessing the consulting begins sometime today. Since Seattle plays a night game and has their annual meeting with the players association most of the player are just arriving to the complex and the clubhouse is closed till about  4 p.m.

In typical Junior fashion, he just showed up out of the blue, basically unannounced. The Mariners media relations staff is trying to set up a time for him to meet with the media. But they aren’t sure when exactly that will take place.

Tonight’s game is being televised on FSN, or whatever the heck they are calling that station now, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he may be in the booth for an inning or two. It will be certainly be mentioned.
