The Orange County Register in Southern California is conducting an on-line poll to determine which American League West team improved the mos during the off-season and, not surprisingly, the Los Angeles Angels have the early lead with 29 per cent of the vote.
The Texas Rangers, who added Adrian Beltre, Arthur Rhodes and Brandon Webb, among others, is second with 15 per cent, and Oakland third at 13 per cent.
And the Seattle Mariners? Well, they didn’t finish. They didn’t even get started – The Register left them off the poll entirely. That is being dissed. Granted, the Mariners finished a distant fourth in the division last year with 101 losses, but they still represent one quarter of the AL West.
Miserably represent one quarter of the AL West.

Why should they even get a vote? They haven’t improved period. Maybe if the poll was about “AL West team to do the least and pick up the most no names” then maybe Seattle mite be in the running.

I agree, thus has been a very uninspiring off season.

I rooted for the Mariners for 11 years before they finished the season with a better than 0.500 record. No one was p!ssin’ and whinning about them not winning then, now all of their “fans” do. I for one am looking forward to baseball this year, with or without the bandwagon.

I’m just waiting patiently until the brass figures out the absolute fraud the Z-man has been. He has traded away a couple of All Star teams and has made the Mariners a farm team for the rest of the Majors.

Well you just keep waitin’. The only All-Stars on this team since he’s been here are Felix and Ichiro unless you include Cliff Lee who was strictly a rent-a-player. Perhaps you were thinking J.J. Putz and Carlos Silva were All-Stars?
This team will get better with patience and not running out to sign unaffordable over-the hill players. The M’s will be lousy this year and if we’re lucky may compete with the Angels for third. But they’ll win more games than last year and hopefully will be easier on the eyes for Larry and Ryan.
