Seattle Mariners fans will be treated to three extra games at Safeco Field and they can thank Bono, The Edge and the Florida Marlins.

Major League Baseball announced on Thursday that the interleague series between the Mariners and the Marlins on June 24-26 scheduled to be played at Sun Life Stadium in Miami has been switched to Safeco Field.

“There was a scheduling conflict,” said Mariners vice president of communications Randy Adamack.

The conflict? The band U2 will be performing at Sun Life on June 29. While there isn’t a direct conflict, the bad needs several days to setup its massive stage and sound system.

There was some talk that the game might be played in Puerto Rico. However, the Marlins have a series in Oakland against the A’s on June 28-30, and the Mariners have home series against the Atlanta Braves on June 27-29, making it simpler for the game to be played in Seattle.

While the games will be played at Safeco Field, the Marlins will be the home team and the games will be played under National League rules, meaning there will be no designated hitter.

The logistics of the game as far as tickets, specifically season ticket holders, and revenues from the game have yet to be determined. Adamack said season ticket holders would likely have the first option to buy the tickets for the game before the remainder of tickets would be released to the general public.

  1. I’m there! Maybe we’ll get a chance to see if Felix can hit another GS. ;)

Oh joy of joys! The fish are coming! At the very least, M’s fans will be able to watch NL baseball live. I’ll watch from home.

  3. A shame it won’t matter. Though the Seacrocks did make the playoffs, so miracles do happen!
